Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested a suspect who is believed to have masterminded a robbery in Kumasi that led to the death of a police officer.
Corporal Frank Essel, who was with a driver with the SWAT Unit at the Ashanti Regional police headquarters, was shot dead after the armed robbers stormed a hotel at Dichemmuoso in Kumasi on May 19, 2016.
Addressing the media on Monday, the Deputy Ashanti Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, said the suspect, a 28-year-old Abena Serwaa contracted the robbers to rob some occupants at the hotel on the day of the incident.
ACP Duku said the suspect had in her possession an amount of GHC1, 487, marijuana and some medical supplies when she was arrested on Monday.
The Deputy Ashanti Police Commander has expressed optimism that the arrest of Abena Serwaa would enable the Police capture the robbers.
