Angry youth of communities within Sege in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region are threatening to vote against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming polls in November over acute water shortage.
The youth during a demonstration Thursday at Sege said life has been unbearable over the last three years due to the situation. The residents said the situation has even affected their marriages as women wake up deep in the night to look for water for their daily chores.
According to the youth, they are forced to share water sources with animals despite attempts to draw attention of authority to their plight.

Bearing placards with inscription “No water, no vote”, “We are dying”, “Water is life”, “NADMO tanker must be free”, the residents vowed not to allow any politician to campaign in the town is the situation is not resolved.
In a four page petition, the youth alleged that their Member of Parliament, Christian Otu Teye is taking undue advantage of the situation by selling water being supplied by NADMO tankers for free. Secretary of the Concerned Youth of Ada West, Lord Freeman Aleley in an interview on Adom News claimed the MP sells each tanker of water for GHC200.00, a situation he described as “criminal”.
According to the petition, Water Head Works at Aveyime is now supplying areas which were initially not part of areas to benefit from the water project. These included Affordable housing project, new banana farm along the Aveyime road, Central University among others.
Other factors, they said included sand winning at Aveyime affecting the purity of water from that source. These among several reasons they said have affected supply to Goi and surrounding communities.
They are demanding that borehole be dug as a short term measure by the Sege MP, Christian Teye to mitigate the situation.
“Our MP can lobby for government and stakeholders to come to our aid by digging boreholes or extending the water supply to other areas in the constituency,” he said.
Their petition was received by Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Isaac Vanderpuije.
