Workers of the West African Examination Council have been demoralized after incidents of examination malpractices and leakages hit the council’s operations.

Both the BECE and WASSCE exams have been hit by leakages and malpractices over the last two years.

Controller of the Kumasi Zone WAEC office, Alex Boapem Bosompem, reveals workers are physiologically affected council.

The comments come as a headmaster of a private Senior High School and two others are being held in Kumasi over similar offences.

Ekow Quashie who heads the Ascension School Complex in Sewua was arrested with English Literature teacher, Esther Boatemaa and a 21-year old WASSCE candidate of the school, Priscilla Adu Brefo.

Some questions of the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) leaked hours before the papers were taken on Tuesday.

Though WAEC has identified two schools in the Eastern Region for engaging in exam malpractice, the culprits are yet to be arrested.

Mr. Bosompem told Nhyira FM, workers are worried over inability of police to thoroughly investigate and establish all those behind the malpractices and leakages.

“Now if you go round my premises here, you see that my staff are all that because when it happens like this, we cannot actually trace the source and it bothers us”.

He says incidents of examination leakages and malpractices takes away the shine of tireless efforts put in by staff of the Council to ensure successful and smooth conduct of examinations such as printing and distribution of exams materials across the country.

“You have to put in a lot to come to this stage. Printing question papers; sending them depots, to offices, packing them – at time we close at 8 o’clock, 9 o’clock in the night and if it happens like this, it means all the work we’ve done has come to zero,”a worried Bosompem said.

Whilst not ruling out the possible involvement of section of its staff in the menace, Mr. Bosompem announced WAEC will investigate exams leakage to the latter.
