Funeral rites for the late Member of Parliament of Abuakwa North constituency, Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu will be held today in Accra at the State House.
JB Danquah was allegedly killed by a 19-year-old boy, Daniel Asiedu, who stormed his residence at Shiashie in Accra.
Daniel Asiedu has since been charged with murder and prosecution.
The body of the former Deputy Minister for Women and Children’s Affairs will be taken to Akyem Old Tafo in the Eastern region for final burial rites tomorrow.
He was the Abuakwa North MP from 2000 until 2008, when he lost the seat to the NPP’s Prof. Samuel Amoako. He returned in 2012 to win the seat.
He left behind a wife and two children. Joseph Boakye Danquah, a chartered Accountant by profession, is the grandson of late J.B Danquah, a Ghanaian statesman, pan-Africanist, scholar and historian, who played a significant role in pre- and post-colonial Ghana.
I went to steal, not to kill
The suspect had earlier told investigators that he went in the MP’s house to steal but ended up killing him in self-defense.
According to the charge sheet, the suspect, Daniel Asiedu, 19, said “he went there to steal but in the process, the deceased woke up and held him.
He said in a struggle with the deceased, he pulled out his knife and stabbed him several times before he became weak and fell down.
