
This year’s Qualifying School (Q-School) of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of Ghana has received a boost from two companies that have agreed to sponsor the event.
The two, Allterrain Services Group (ATS) which is widely known for their catering services and ZAFCO International, a leading manufacturer in the automobile industry confirmed their agreement to support this year’s event to make it a memorable one.
PGA of Ghana President, Mr Bliss B. Ayivor expressed his appreciation to the companies and called on other corporate companies to support the development of golf in the country.
Captain of the host club, Damang Golf Club, Mr Pius Ayeh Appiah said his club is ready to host this year’s edition of the Q-School and will be looking forward to see some good display from the ‘wannabes’.
He said his club has been supporting the PGA of Ghana by hosting the annual PGA Championship and also the Q-School.
Golfers in the country who wish to turn professional golfers will have the opportunity to do so at this year’s edition of the PGA of Ghana Q-School which will be held at the Damang Golf Club from Friday, August 26, 2016 to Sunday, August 28, 2016.
Qualification, according to the PGA of Ghana will be limited to the first five in playing competency where applicants will play 54 holes, 36 on Friday and 18 on Saturday. A written test will be taken before the 18 holes on Saturday.
According to the PGA of Ghana, they currently have membership in excess of 70 though many have seen their better days. The Association needs more young members.
“To this end the Association has put together a standard qualifying process called the Q-School. The two-day event is the climax of this Apprenticeship period and candidates are assessed based on the syllabus.
At the end of the assessment there will be successful qualifiers who would join the ranks of the Professional Golfers of Ghana.
