Election 2016: I’m not moved by your criticisms – Mahama tells NPP

president-john-mahamaaPresident John Mahama has said he is not perturbed by the number of criticism coming from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) because their forefather did same to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The President said this when he addressed a campaign rally in the Volta region as part of his campaign tour.

“They are the same people who frustrated Dr. Nkrumah. They have been there for a very long time. They say we do not chew roads, we do not chew hospitals and we do not chew schools. During our campaign launch in Cape Coast, former President Rawlings warned us to beware of them. He said they had been there for a very long time. They tormented Dr. Kwame Nkrumah during his era.”

The NPP has over the years criticised the Mahama-led government over how the NDC have governed the country so far. President Mahama likened his situation to that of Ghana’s first president Kwame Nkrumah’s government where UP party was always criticising the government of the day.

The UP government metamorphosed years later into the NPP.

“They have appeared again repeating the thing they did under Kwame Nkrumah. They are again downplaying the positive impact of the loans Ghana has contracted under my era. I do not .use the monies on lavish things but for projects that will last,” the President stated.

He continued: “When we were undertaking these projects, we employed Ghanaians as carpenters, masons, electricians and other artisans. All these people have had some form of employment I am sure their family members also benefited because they were catered for out of the income they got from being employed.”

“While we are doing all these things, they are still saying we are wasting national resources. They are still saying we are wasting national resources”.

Meanwhile President Mahama said in an interview with Ovation Magazine that the Presidential Candidate for the NPP Nana Akuffo-Addo has been running away from a one-on-one debate with him (President Mahama) on issues surrounding his term in office.

“I have challenged him (Akufo-Addo) to a debate, I have said bring all these points you are raising one by one and lets us have a debate. Let me and you debate to the Ghanaian public about the points you are raising; inflation, infrastructure and things. But he has run away,” he said.
