Anas to be probed over alleged non-payment of SSNIT contributions

anas-aremeyaw-anasThe Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has said it will investigate allegations that investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas does not pay contributions for his Tiger Eye PI staff.

Embattled High Court Judge, Justice Uuter Dery in October this year, filed a complaint at SSNIT saying that Tiger Eye PI does not exist, and hence Anas Aremeyaw Anas employs individuals to run his fake company without paying their contributions to SSNIT.

“This constitutes an offence under section 83(1) (a)&(g) of the Pensions Act, 2008 (Act 766), which provides as follows:

“’A person who fails or refuses to register any establishment owned or set up by that person or to register any worker under this Act….is liable on summary conviction….to a fine not exceeding the amount of contribution and penalty owed to the Trust or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years or both”, he indicated.

SSNIT has since responded to the complaint saying: “We hereby acknowledge receipt with thanks your letter dated 30th October 2016 under the above subject.”

“Your complaint will be investigated to ensure any appropriate action to be taken”, the report sighted by starrfmonline.com has said.

Ghana was hit with a massive bribery scandal in September 2015, when it was revealed in an exposé by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye team, that Superior and lower court judges took bribes from litigants whose cases come before them.

About twenty of the Magistrate and Circuit Court judges implicated in the judicial scandal have been removed from office so far.

But some of the sacked judges have since argued that the decision was a violation of their rights.

Justice Paul Uter Dery, Justice Mustapha Habib Logoh and Justice Gilbert Ayisi Addo, have dragged the Republic of Ghana and the Chief Justice to the Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) over the matter.

The applicants are seeking for the enforcement of their human rights which they argue have been violated and continue to be violated by the Republic of Ghana.

The Judicial Council and the Attorney General have also been named in the writ as third and fourth respondents, respectively.
