The self-acclaimed chief of Gbese, Nii Ayi Bonte II, on Tuesday was faced with what many would say an embarrassing situation when the president-elect, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, called on the Ga Traditional Council at Dodowa.
Nana Akufo-Addo had gone there with some party executives to thank the chiefs and the queen mothers for their support during the 2016 electioneering campaign.
Many of the chiefs were present at the event but the Gbese Mantse, who is popularly known as Tommy Okai, had apparently hidden himself amongst the gathering.
He had earlier this year in the run-up to the elections vowed to destool himself if the NPP’s candidate (now president-elect), was voted as the president of Ghana after December 7.
Gbese MantseHe told a public function largely attended by members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) that President Mahama and the NDC government have done enough for the country and hence deserved to win the elections.
But the tables turned on December 7 when Nana Addo polled 5, 716,026 million votes representing 53.85 % to beat the incumbent president John Dramani Mahama who had 4, 713,277 million votes representing 44.40 %.
Many have since begun calling for the head of the Gbese chief, asking him to stand by his words.
He has subsequently gone silent over the incident but was surprisingly found on Tuesday seated in the hall where Nana Addo’s meeting with the Ga Traditional Council took place.
Tommy Okai who was fully dressed in a chief’s regalia had gone to sit far behind the crowd where he could not be easily notified.
But the cameras managed to capture him, where reports say his body language showed one who was very apprehensive.
Many had expected him to be apologetic enough by drawing nearer to the president-elect after the event to exchange pleasantries.
He, however, was nowhere to be found, after apparently leaving the scene after the event.
