This came to light immediately after the market association have presented themselves to the Traditional authorities, activity held at the residence of Nene Ada the Paramount chief of Ada Traditional Area.
Ada market is patronized by neighboring Districts and Regions in Southern Ghana. It is situated at Kasseh in the Ada East District in the Greater Accra Region. Traders and buyers from Togo, Volta, Greater Accra and Eastern Region patronize the renowned market .
Authorities from the District Assembly have been accused severally for not being proactive in their duties as far as the market is concerned . The market lack facilities like hygiene, landscaping, security and banking. These and others are what the taxpayers want from the local assembly.
The business men and women have been proactive in forming a Market Association to see how best they can address their problems. In November 2016, The Greater Accra market Association inaugurated the Ada Market Association which was attended by both traditional and political leaders.
The association on Thursday June 29, 2017 presented themselves to the traditional authorities to seek their blessings on their aspirational endeavours. Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, the Paramount chief of Ada received them and charged them to unite and seek amicable settlement of cases that might happen at the market than going to the law courts.
The Queen, Naana Kabukuor Dagojo Dumaaley I, in her turn advised the women to keep the market clean. She cautioned them that it’s better for an individual to sweep and clean his/her shop than to rely on the Zoomlion sanitation officers and the Assembly’s cleaners. She assured them that her office is collaborating with developers to see how best the market will be developed into an ultra-modern state.
The women have installed Mrs Ernestina Nartey as the Queen of the Market. She thanked the chiefs for accepting the association and their pledge to support the women to achieve their desires. She was emphatic on the fact that, the Market Queen is peculiar with activities that concerns the market but not for the community.
She enumerated challenges market women and men face on market days and how they, as association are mobilising to solve it. She expressed worry that, the land owners of which the market is situated have perception of the association and see them as threats and put obstacles on their way especially if they want to undertake any developmental project.
The Market Queen further explained that, the land owners believe that when the market is developed, the association will claim ownership and this is retarding progress of their planned agenda and therefore called on the traditional authorities to compromise for the eventual well-being of the people.
The association is currently constructing information centre in the market to facilitate communication. Construction of Kindergarten to keep their children on market days, environmentally friendly toilet facility and construction of story building to be used as stores considered as the only solution make the market more spacious .
