Kanye West is switching gears from going off the deep end on Twitter to actually releasing work relevant to his talent with two new tracks.
However, the order of the tracks and their differing intents have some fans asking, “What’s really going on, here?”
On Friday, the outspoken rapper revealed the title of a new song called “Lift Yourself,” which he made available to stream live on his website, kanyewest.com.
He prefaced the release by filling his Twitter followers in on the story behind it, stating one of the verses “will bring Ebro the closure he’s been seeking,” referencing a recent conversation the Hot 97 host shared on the air.
While he indicated in the tweet that the bars would be “fire,” on the track, the irony stands as there aren’t any intelligible bars, at all, as he seems to be rapping gibberish, spewing “words” like, “poopty scoopty,” over a sample of Amnesty’s 1973 song “Liberty.”
Following this first release, however, he dropped another track titled “‘Ye vs. the People” featuring T.I.
The new cut, which is yet to be released on streaming platforms, was played on loop on Power 106 FM and stands as the polar opposite to its predecessor, “Lift Yourself.”
The song takes the form of a political debate between the two MCs, who touch on hot-button topics that ‘Ye has spoken out for — or against — like police brutality, president Donald Trump, president Obama, and “the sunken place.”
This comes following Kanye’s announcement that he will be dropping a seven-track solo record on June 1, in addition to a series of collaborative projects with the likes of Kid Cudi, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert and A$AP Rocky.
