MTN Ghana has climaxed its 12th edition of 21 Days of Y’ello Care with a career day to empower young students with tools and ideas that will prepare them for the future.

The event also intended to create a platform for young people to see what the future job market may look like. The aim was to open a whole new world of opportunities for the participants, as a result, MTN invited its Technology partners Huawei Ghana and Ericsson to help facilitate the event. Students were exposed to mentorship sessions with some Executives of MTN Ghana. The Career Day was attended by some students from Ashaiman, Kinbu, Osu Salem and Accra High SHS as well as students of the MTN internship pool.

The Career Day was held simultaneously across 21 operations in MTN Group to end 21 Days of Y’ello Care.

Speaking at the event, Acting Corporate Services Executive of MTN, Mr. Samuel Koranteng said, “The Y’ello Career Day will help guide young people to choose careers that will be relevant and impactful to society. We believe that through this event, we can equip our participants with adequate information on the changing dynamics of today’s job market. Students will therefore be empowered enough to choose careers that are relevant.”

This year’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care, was organized under the under the theme, “Creating a Brighter Future.” In view of that, MTN Ghana employees embarked on projects in line with youth empowerment and activities to promote good sanitation in selected communities across Ghana.

As part of the activities, MTN staff partnered with National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) to organize skills training for 100 needy youth in Tamale, Kumasi, Takoradi and Accra. MTN staff volunteers also donated and installed 15 computers for Accra Technical Training Center (ATTC). They also partnered with Initiative for Youth Development (IYD) to train 100 Zongo youth in general ICT and coding.

Clean-up campaigns were embarked on across the country in partnership with Zoomlion. The volunteers also visited Nelplast Ghana Limited (a Ghanaian Company which recycles plastic waste) to recycle waste plastic bottles which were harvested by MTN staff at James Town beach. The plastic waste were recycled into building and pavement blocks.

The 21 Days of Y’ello Care starts from 1st to 21st of June. This staff volunteer initiative is also a competition amongst MTN’s 22 operating companies across MTN Group. The Operating country which secures the highest number of staff involved in volunteerism and projects with remarkable impact wins the ultimate prize of $100,000 to be re-invested in community projects.

MTN Ghana remains one of the most awarded country for volunteerism and projects picking up Leadership Award in 2016, Integrity Award in 2015, Innovation Project award in 2014, ICT Project, 2013, overall Y’ello Care Challenge winners for two years 2010 & 2011 and the 2008 WECA (West and Central Africa) Regional award.
