I visited Ada Kpomkpo Panya (River Bank) and I saw clam miners returning to sell their catch. Both the indegenes and others from the neighbouring Districts converge to make bussiness around the river bank. Indeed Ada is the only place that one can locate clam market in Greater Accra Region.
One unfortunate thing is that, market women who travel from Accra, Ashaiman, Tema, Koforidua including Volta Region to transact the clam bussiness have no where to urinate. Apart from hundreds of people who go to the clam market to transact various types of bussiness, the place serves as transit point for more than twenty five Island communities in Ada.
Travellers mostly women strand do not have any private place than to expose their dignity when the need arise for them to respond to nature’s call.
The Kpomkpo clam market brings food to the table of many people around the Area. Labourers assist the women to bag and cut the clam for the market women.
Whiles others sell food to travellers who are heading to or from the Island, some also use palm branches to weave baskets to facilitate the women’s job so as to get their end’s meet.
There are numerous hotels along this river at Ada. People, including friends from the international fraternity visit and use these facilities.
OPINION: This opinion may be wrong and stand to be corrected. I must say the Hotels whose guests unknowingly swim in this polluted water must be up and doing to deliver their coperate social responsibilities. The Ada East District Assembly can also move in to develop the area to have additional market and this will boost revenue mobilisation in the District.
Picture above shows clam shells being patronised by Poultry farmers . They drive to Ada from both far and near places with cargo trucks to buy these shells to prepare feed for their birds. It serves as calcium for their poultry farm birds.
