The Swedish Sportjournalist Federation (SSF) have elected their first female president since it was founded in 1949.
Lisa Edwinsson, a 33-year-old reporter at the Stockholm morning newspaper Dagens Nyheter was voted to the post unanimously at the yearly meeting.
Lisa is currently following Zlatan Ibrahimovic and his teammates on their way to Euro 2016 in France.
She succeeds Mats Taxén, who has been the president for six years and has been a board member of the Swedish Sports Journalists Federation (SSF) since 2012.
“In the past years we have unfortunately been struggling with safety issues on Swedish press stands and stadiums. I want the SSF to be the natural discussion partner for clubs and sports federations when it comes to working conditions and security for our members. ” Edwinsson said after the election.
Lisa Edwinsson has been working in the sports department of Dagens Nyheter since 2011. Before that she worked at regional newspaper Upsala Nya Tidning, the news agency TT and evening paper Aftonbladet.
“I also want SSF to be more present in the national debate about sport journalism.
SSF will change its organization dramatically in the coming years. 16 regional clubs will be transformed to only one national organization.”
Lisa will be assisted in her work by Jenny Modin, president of the Stockholm club, to which two thirds of the sport journalists in Sweden belong.
Together they form a strong female duo to lead the Swedish sport journalists towards a changing future.
