The youth of Sege, the capital of Ada West District, on Founders’ Day, September 21 took a huge step towards salvaging the the town from its present state of deprivation by setting up and launching a fund to help themselves and other natives of the town.

The name of the initiative is Sege Youth Development Fund (SYDF) with a main aim to tackle some identified problems confronting the natives due to lack of funds and jobs.

In his welcome address, Simon Kpankpah Ababio, Proprietor of Sege based private preparatory school, Glorious Grace Academy said the group was formed to help members and other needy people in the community and therefore encouraged all the participants to join.

The main speaker for the occasion, Pastor Philip Agu AKA Sikatse appealed to all to join the fund since the future of the town rest with it. He said there were a number of such groups which existed in the past without success but this one is bound to succeed because of the commitments shown by the initiators. He further stated that for the fact that some people tried and failed doesn’t mean this shall also fail.

Lewis Numekevor, the spokesperson for the group who outlined the operations of the fund said that members are required to make an annual contribution of GH¢100 which will be invested and the returns used to address the identified problems. He mentioned a number of areas which the group intends to tackle but the main ones are brilliant but needy kids, health and pushing football talents.

After outlining the operations of the group, the floor was opened for questions, contributions and brainstorming and participants seized the opportunity to express their views about the idea. Most of them commended the initiators of the group for such a laudable idea. They therefore encouraged the organisers not to rest on the dream but to see to its success.

The Assembly member for Sege, Moses Lomotey Nanor, chairman for the occasion who is also part of the initiators delivered the closing remarks and and asked all natives of the town to support the group because it has plans for the town aside the few that were mentioned. Other members of the initiators who helped to make the meeting a success are Exodus Baduor, mc for the show, Vadis Peaceman Ayiku, Alorgbey Godwin and Parvis Dornu the general coordinator of the meeting.
