Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has renewed a lucrative endorsement deal with sportswear giant Nike.
The length of the multi-year agreement was not disclosed. The news was announced just hours after the Portuguese forward penned a contract extension with his Spanish LaLiga football club through to 2021.
The value of the Nike contract is reportedly about €24m ($27m) per year, with the possibility of rising to €40m per year, based on performances.
“I have an excellent relationship with this brand, I have great friends here and we work as a family. This is my brand,” Ronaldo said.
Nike added: “He transcends the world of football, as the most famous athlete in the world and the most popular on social networks.”
Nike said that Ronaldo’s “extensive feedback and insights” had helped Nike’s design team on numerous products, especially the Mercurial Superfly boots that he wears. “His commitment to fitness has also informed Nike’s training products, while his style is regularly on display in Nike Sportswear,” Nike added.
