The Black Princesses failed to progress to the knockout stage of the FIFA U-20 Women’s Cup for the fourth time, after they drew 1-1 against the USA.
The USA dominated play in the early stages of the game, but it was Ghana who went ahead against the run of play when a seemingly unharmful long range from Ernestina Abambila was connected into the net by Murphy in post for the Americans in the 20th minute.
The USA responded quickly by snatching the equaliser through Pugh who in a solo run placed the ball at the blind side of the Ghanaian goalie to give them the equaliser in the 22nd minute.
The Black Princesses in the second half came close to scoring the match winner, but Sandra Owusu-Ansah wasted the opportunities that came her way.
Meanwhile, in the other group C game, France defeated New Zealand 2-0.
France and USA topped the group with 5 points plus two goals each, while New Zealand came third with 3 points and Ghana finished fourth with 2 points.
