West Africa Football Academy young striker, Daniel Lomotey Adzigodi Agbloe is in utopian ecstasy after opening his Ghana premier league account, netting in his side’s magnificent 4-1 away conquest of champions, Wa All Stars last Sunday.
It was his first start but it still took the 17 year old hitman eight games to score his first goal of his debut season, Lomotey however remains focused on his goal-king aspirations.
“Yeah I’m delighted for finally scoring my first premier league goal, it’s been long in coming but I hope it boosts my confidence to score more goals for the club going forward,” Lomotey said.
“I still have eyes on the goalking so I will work harder and hopefully be there at the end of the season. I’m also grateful to my teammates for their unity and team spirit, we are always together,” the Ada native added.
Lomotey’s strike after 63 minutes at the Malik Jabir Stadium in the Upper West Region capital added to two from Richard Danso and another by Majeed Ashimeru not only ended All Stars’ 18-match unbeaten home record but also pushed the Sogakofe academy lads to third spot on the league ladder only on goal difference to second placed Aduana Stars with who they share 14 points.
But Lomotey who only started Sunday’s game as replacement for Togolese striker, Komlan Agbegniandan who was on national team duties during the FIFA international break, rewarded the confidence imposed in him by coach Klavs Rasmussen with a goal after he had started all the seven previous games from the bench and only came in as second half substitute on all those occasions.
At colts level, he emerged top scorer in the 2014 Ada colts league and eventually emerged the best player. He was the overall top scorer for his colts club, Denart Soccer Academy before moving to Glow Lamp Soccer Academy under the mentorship of former Ghana international, Nii Odartey Lamptey in the 2015/2016 season where he scored over twenty goals for the academy side and had a little spell with the national under- 17 side, Black Starlets at Prampram.
He is still hopeful his efforts will surely reward him with a national team call up soon.
“As I said the previous time, the dream is to get enough experience this season and explode by next season, if my effort is rewarded with a call up into the national under 20 side it will always be a plus to me and I will be so happy,” the teenage striker said.
