The chiefs and people of Ada have launched this year’s edition of the Asafotufiami festival under the theme ‘Asafotufiami@80: We are on a transformational journey’ at a colourful ceremony held at the plush Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra on Monday night.
Scheduled for 3rd to 10th August, 2017 in Ada, this year’s festival is sponsored by Groupe Ideal whose President, Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani used the occasion to 
chastise traditional leaders in the area to unite to foster development of Ada and not to undermine the paramount chief’s initiative to promote peace.
“We have the Songor salt which is a big natural resource we can tap to bring huge development in Ada but people there is no unity to end long-held struggles over its operations,” said Dr. Dzani, a native of the land.
“I know Nene Ada, the paramount chief has urged all chiefs to put together a single voice to combat the ‘Atsiakpo’ factor but some of the divisional chiefs who are even sitting here with us have refused to sign the agreement which is a big shame. It’s time we unite to take Ada to the level it deserves,” added Dr. Dzani who pledged GH¢300,000 to support the construction of a befitting chief’s palace in Ada.
This year’s event not only marks the 80th anniversary of the celebration of the festival in the modern era, it also marks 40 years on the throne by the paramount chief and President of the Ada Traditional Council, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku II.
The launch was attended by the movers and shakers of Ada including the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ada West, Hon. A.L. Akrofi, MP for Ada East, Hon. Doeyo Ghansah, MDs of various Groupe Ideal companies and was screened live on TV Africa, a member of Groupe Ideal and official media partners of the 2017 Asafotufiami festival.
A host of activities have been lined up to celebrate the often well-attended festivities including floats from Tema to Ada, food bazaar, drumming and dancing, royal walk and regatta, beach games, party for the aged and of course the grand durbar of chiefs and people of Ada, the annual ceremony during which chiefs of the various clans are carried through the principal streets of 
Ada.
“This 80th anniversary is special, it’s to remind the people of Ada of our rich cultural heritage, the heroism of our forefathers and its potential investor relations and tourism prospects,” stated Nene Kabu Akuaku in his speech.
“For us the people of Ada, this event brings people from far and near to rejuvenate once again under under one tradition. We are excited about the growing euphoria surrounding the festival and we will make this year’s special to appeal to the larger audience and tourists as well,” the paramount chief of Ada added.
