Ghana’s High Commissioner to Australia, His Excellency Edwin Nii Adjei, has advised the Ghanaian athletes participating in the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be disciplined and make sure to compete fairly.

He said “if you win, you win fairly; if you lose, you lose gallantly and if there is any decision made which is not in your favour, use the appropriate channel.”

The High Commissioner gave this advice when he paid a working visit to Ghana’s contingent at their training camp in Queensland, Australia.

He said their presence in Australia was an opportunity to sell the Ghana brand and therefore urged them to comport themselves as such.

“Games as we all know is an opportunity for culture brand, it when most countries sell their culture so as you have come, I want you to look at the games you are participating as a platform that you are going to use to project the nation,” he stated.

He assured them of his continuous support for Team Ghana during their stay and participation in the games.

He urged the athletes to take a cue from their predecessors and make a name for themselves; so that they can book their names in the history of Ghana sports.

He added that the games was also a platform for the athletes to socialise and make good contacts with other athletes from the Commonwealth Nations and again urged them to use sports to make name for Ghana.

He acknowledged the assistance of the executives of the Ghanaian community and called on them to continue supporting Team until they depart from Australia.

Team Ghana, led by the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Robert Sarfo Mensah, welcomed and thanked the High Commissioner and his delegation as well as the Ghanaian community for the support and assistance since the Team touched down last week.

He explained that prior to the Team’s arrival in Australia, a recce team from the International Games Committee (IGC) paid a visit to Australia and since the establishment of contact, between both sides, there has never been a cause to worry.

He added that everything was going on well as planned just as they discussed during the initial visit and was grateful to the High Commission and the Ghanaians in general for the help.

He assured the Commissioner that the managers of the athletes would continue to collaborate with his office for a successful participation in next month’s Games.

The High Commissioner was accompanied by Minister at the Commission, Mr Hakeem Balogun and other Ghanaian residents in Australia led by President of the Ghanaian Community in Queensland, Mr Nicholas Botchway.

The 2018 Gold Coast Games would begin on April 4 and end April 15. Ghana would be participating in 12 disciplines namely; athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, swimming, table tennis, hockey, weightlifting, shooting, para-cycling, para-powerlifting and para-athletics.
