
The Ada Traditional Authority in collaboration with the Shatta Movement Family (SMF) has launched this year’s Asafotufiami festival which is scheduled to take place from the August 4 to August 11, 2016 at Ada in the Greater Accra Region.
The festival which is celebrated among the people of Ada East and West districts is to promote and preserve tourism and also to generate revenue to support the area.
Launching the festival, the queen mother of Ada Traditional Area, Naana Kamukor Dumaale Dabojo I, explained that each traditional area has a festival that distinguishes them from each other and therefore Ada is no exception.

According to her, the Asafotufiami festival is a rich cultural heritage which is celebrated annually in memory of the invaluable achievement of their ancestors.
The festival which is on the theme: ‘Preserving Our Cultural Heritage for Eco-Tourism Development,’ is to generate revenue and also promote tourism through which employment will be created for the youth in the area.
She said Ada can boast of many tourist sites which will serve the people who will be part of this
remarkable occasion and has therefore called on stakeholders to support the course.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Shatta Movement Family, Juwaid Abdullah Sika used the opportunity to call for peace and unity as elections draw nigh and also promised that his outfit will ensure that the festival becomes a success. He pledged to draw more crowd from far and near to support this call of revenue mobilization through tourism.
Speaking on security, the Station Officer of Big Ada Police Station, Chief Inspector S.K. Banson assured all and sundry of their safety and allayed the fears of sleeping in hotels and chalets saying measures have been put in place to ensure that revelers are protected.
Outlining the activities for the festival, the Chairman of the committee set aside to ensure a smooth celebration who also doubles as the Secretary to the Paramount Chief, Jonathan Dokutu explained that activities such as homecoming, AIDS walk, cleanup exercise, candle possession/gospel rock show and on day two, traditional activities, live band show, grand durbar, music carnival among others has been outlined to mark the festival.
