Adasco headmaster J.T. Tugah sent off in style

It was a riot of colours, amid fanfare and celebration of service in the assembly hall of Ada Senior High School (Adasco) on Friday 1^st July, 2016.

The  board of members, teaching and non-teaching staff, old students (Nimeli), invited guests together with the present student body sat down to witness the send-off for the outgoing headmaster, Mr. Jacob

Tetteh Tugah as well as the Accountant, Mr. Stanley Aborchie and immediate past board members  of the school.

Mr. Jacob Tetteh Tugah, who is an old student of the then Ada Secondary School from 1973 to 1977, returned to the alma mater as a Mathematics teacher from 1980 to 1983, then again in 1994 to 2000 as the head of the Mathematics department. He was the chairman of the school’s disciplinary committee during the period.

Before taking up the headship of the school, he was the assistant headmaster of Accra High School. Mr. Tugah took the mantle from Mr. Sammy Sackey Adusu on the 1^st of July, 2010.

SUCCESSES

During his tenure of office he spearheaded the organization and planning of the school’s 50th Anniversary.

Staff strength has increased from 50 to 78 without national service persons.

A business department has been created.

Teachers living on campus have increased from 8 to 18.

The student population has risen from 900 to 2,215 students in a space of six years.

Walkways have been built to ease movement especially during the rainy season.

The library has been refurbished.

Four deep freezers have been bought for the kitchen.

Poly tanks were provided to ease the water shortage problem.

A new girl’s dormitory was built, walled and gated.

There has been an extension work at the kitchen.

The dormitories and kitchen have been painted.

A new headmaster’s bungalow is under construction by the Dangme East District Assembly (DEDA).

An 8 semi-detached teacher’s bungalow is also near completion.

A six unit classroom with offices and washrooms built by the CEO of Ideal Finance, Dr. Kotei Djanie who also happens to be a Nimeli.

The school has procured 1,000 plastic chairs to cut down cost of hiring when there is an event.

Classroom doors that were falling apart have been fixed.

In sports, a volley ball court has been built.

The school scored 90% in the 2015 WASCE.

Mr. Emmanuel Kpodo won the 3^rd National Best Teacher 2015.

The school made it to the semifinals in this year’s National Maths and Science Quiz after making placing third last year.

Last but not the least a power plant has been installed for the school.

In his speech, Mr. Tugah enumerated a number of problems facing the school.

1. Inadequate bungalows for teachers.
2. A fence wall to be built around the school.
3. Burglar proof doors to secure the ICT center.
4. Weak poly tank platforms.
5. Old vehicles to be repaired.
6. Water shortage.
7. Supervision of security men.
8. A mill for the kitchen.
9. Building of the assembly hall.

Citations and awards were given to the immediate past board chairman and members, the immediate headmaster and accountant.

The chairman for the occasion was the new board chairman, Mr. Tsatsu Doku. In his closing remarks he made a passionate appeal to the District Director of Education and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to allow old students of the school to continually hold the position of headmasters. This, he said will go a long way to lift the standard of the school.

Mr. Tugah will always be remembered for the great infrastructural development he brought to the school.
