DJ Lord Dash is one of the happiest people on Earth after he was named Best DJ at the most recent Hausa Music Awards and he says “everybody has his time”
It was a night to celebrate with unknown and upcoming Hausa music producers and artistes from the Zongo communities at the first Hausa Music Awards which came off at the Trade Fair Centre on Friday, October 28, 2016.
The awards ceremony was successfully organised by Xcess Entertainment in collaboration with Stepford Multimedia and supported by MUSIGA, and the aim was to highlight the progress of Hausa music in the Ghana music industry.
Artistes living in the Zongos as well Hausa speaking artistes were nominated in the various categories and duly awarded on the night.
Among the popular artistes who were announced at the Nomination Party held at the Sky Bar, Asylum Down in Accra were Rudebwoy Ranking, Rashid Metal, Garba, Samini, Friction, D Flex and Luther.
15 categories were listed, they included Artiste of the Year, Religious Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Rapper, Most Popular Song, Best Group, Hiphop Artiste of the Year and People’s Choice Awards.
Rudebwoy Ranking, Bastero, Rashid Metal, Multi Rolls, Garba, Capasta and D Sheriff competed for the Artiste of the Year award.
Shatta Wale came up against the likes of Stonebwoy, Samini, Ras Kuku, Sarkodie, Edem and El for the People’s Choice Award.
Mr. Paul Doe, Event Coordinator of Xcess Entertainment, said in an interview with the media that the Hausa Music Awards, the first of its kind provides a sense of pride for Zongo artistes and their fans.
“It is also to encourage them to reach for the greatest heights in their respective careers. Apart from that, the awards scheme will also bring exposure to Hausa speaking artistes in the country and beyond”.
The Zongo youth is very passionate about music which is quite evident in the talents such as Rashid Metal and Rudebwoy Ranking who come from the Zongo communities.
“Hausa is one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa and it’s only right to celebrate artistes who project the language and its culture through their music,” Doe said.
Rudebwoy Ranking, Rashid Metal, Garba, Star Gyal Denora, Tinny, Episode, Capasta, Morell lined – up to entertain patrons on the night.
Classiq and Adam Zongo from Nigeria and Niger respectively, also stole a piece of the show as their Ghanaian fans cheered and danced to their popular songs.
DJ Lord Dash who was named Best DJ got the shock of his life with the reward as he never expected it. “In fact, it was my first award in my life, and I thank the organisers and Hausa music lovers who have been watching the good things were have been doing” he said.
DJ Lord Dash praised the media, especially Radio, TV and those internet providers for playing all the good music on air. He noted that the award is an inspiration as it has motivated him to work harder.
Meanwhile, series of activities have been lined up to promote local music.
The Hausa Music Awards which has come to stay as an annual event is organized by Xcess entertainment in collaboration with Stepford Multimedia.
