An exploding pressure cooker left a former champion boxer with severe facial injuries and caused him to lose most of his sight.
Guillermo Rigondeaux was rushed to hospital after the “freak accident” which occurred at his home in Miami.
The 41-year-old was cooking a meal when the pot exploded, his manager Alex Bornote explained to El Nuevo Herald.
“When the pot exploded and we saw how Rigondeaux was left, we thought the worst,” he said.
“Because his face and eyes looked very bad as a result of the impact of the explosion.”
The Cuban fighter was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries, where tests revealed that he his eyesight had been heavily affected.

Bornote said that the former world champion across two weight divisions was left with only around 20 per cent of his vision as a result of the blast.
Fortunately, as his manager went on to specify, doctors are hopeful Rigondeaux will be able to make a full recovery in time.
